BILL J. AUSMUS
Mr. Bill J. Ausmus 85, a resident of Trenton, Missouri passed away peacefully at 2:29 P.M., Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Livingston Manor, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Mr. Ausmus was born March 20, 1935 at Edina, Missouri, the son of David Brice and Jennet Hunter Ausmus.
After graduating from Edina High School he went on to pursue multiple degrees in teaching with emphasis in physical education and industrial arts. While at Kirksville State Teachers College, he excelled as an athlete and was twice named All-American in both basketball and track. Later he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. After college he did a short tour in the U.S. Army where he met his future wife Peggy.
On August 20, 1959 he was married to Peggy J. Crowder at Metropolis, Illinois. They moved to Milan and later Trenton, Missouri to continue his teaching and coaching career. Bill had his priorities in life. They were God, family, and work, which always involved some form of teaching and coaching. He had a passion for helping others and a smile which all will remember. Even as the Dean of Trenton Jr. College he continued to lead with kindness, integrity, and compassion.
His survivors include his wife Peggy of the home; two daughters Tracy Utley and husband John of Trenton and Jamie Hooyman and husband Gary of Trenton; and six grandchildren Aubrey Utley, Wilson Utley, Claire Utley, Maddie Hooyman, Mallory Hooyman, and Mason Hooyman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and five brothers.
Open graveside services were held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens north of Trenton.
Open visitation was held Wednesday from 10: 00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Resthaven Mortuary, Trenton.
