JANUARY – Joan Harrelson celebrated her 88th birthday. Ruby Weigel celebrated her 79th birthday. Garcia’s Auto Repair and Transmission moved into the old Foster’s Auto Repair building. Milan Ladycats win the Championship place at the 61st Milan Invitational Basketball Tournament held January 11th through January 16th, 2021. The Milan Wildcat boys received the Championship place in the 61st Milan Invitational Tournament held January 11th through January 16th, 2021. The Sullivan County Senior Center received a $10K grant from the Community Action Partnership of North Central Missouri. Green City Lady Gophers and the Green City Gopher boys both placed second in the 61st Milan Invitational Tournament held January 11th through January 16th, 2021. Cady Pauley and Dominic Dabney received the MVP (Most Valuable Player) Award at the 61st Invitational Tournament. The Green City Food Market, owned by Chelsia Rouse and the MO Department of Conservation have partnered in the Annual Share The Harvest Program. There was 3000 pounds of finished deer meat donated to the Sullivan County Food Pantry for the 2020 season. Williams and Sorhus charged on election offenses. Carol McKee celebrated her 90th birthday. Erin Garrison is named to the William Woods Fall 2020 Dean’s List.
FEBRUARY – Sullivan County Health Department successfully vaccinated 200 residents for the COVID-19 vaccine on February 1, 2021. Report of a plane crash near Humphreys on Monday, February 8, 2021. Abe Hollon celebrated his 93rd birthday. Dean and Janice Page celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on February 22nd, 2021 with a card shower. Fanny Marquinn was crowned MIHISCO Queen and Dominic Dabney was crowned MIHISCO King on February 13, 2021. Gary and Margaret (McNabb) Tatum of Madison, MO., formerly of Green City, MO. celebrated the 50th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, December 27, 2020. Senior Tristian Herschberger and Senior Mia Silas were crowned King and Queen at the Green City Homecoming on February 18, 2021. National FFA week was celebrated February 20th through February 27. The Milan Ladycats win Class B District 16 Basketball Championship. The Sullivan County Ambulance District purchased a new 2021 Ford F 450. Draft horse owned by Glenn and Jane Helsey of Harris, MO became the highest selling draft horse of all time when it sold for $120,000.00. She was purchased by Jane Gray from Trippcrest Farm in Harrison, Maine at the Mid-America Draft Horse Sale in Gifford, Illinois.
MARCH – Ladycats lose to Skyline in the Class lll State Quarter Finals. The Sullivan County health department administered 100 vaccinations during the second dose clinic held at the REC building in Milan. All Conference Milan girls and boys Grand Rivers Conference Selections were Dominic Dabney, Chekh Niasse, Cady Pauley, Jordyn Gray and Fanny Marquina. Coach of the Year is Ched Hurley of Milan, MO. Jacob White wins MO State Folkstyle Wrestling Championship held at the HyVee arena in Kansas City, MO. Linn County R-1 Basketball Class l District 14 Honors went to Alyssa Bukovac, Morgan Livingston, Cody Murrell, and Gage Seals. Green City athletes receiving Class l District ll Honors were Grant O’Haver, Asher Buggs-Tipton, Laydon Fields, Aaron Peavler, Celeste Athon, Tanner Tipton, and Gracey Gordon. Milan Old Timers’ reunion will not be held this year on Memorial Day weekend due to the amount of people it takes to host it. Kay Morris celebrates her 90th birthday. Samuel (Cody) McClaran from Harris, Mo. received the A+ Outstanding Student Award Scholarship from the North Central Missouri College Foundation. He is the son of Rick and Lisa McClaran of Harris. Great Western Bank awarded the Sullivan County Multi-Purpose Senior Center their Making Life Great Grant in the amount of $3000.00. Sullivan County Motors of Green City, MO. is now an Authorized Scag Power Equipment Dealer in the area. Ashton Lee wins the DAR essay contest. She is the daughter of Bridget and Randy Lee of Winigan. Grandparents are John and Pat Lee of Milan and Linda and Mike Hepler of Winigan. The Green Castle Community Coalition hosted its first annual Easter egg hunt in the Green Castle park. Over 100 children attended the event.
