VELMA LOUISE “ELAH” (ROBERTSON) VAUGHN

VELMA LOUISE “ELAH” (ROBERTSON) VAUGHN

Velma Louise “Elah” (Robertson) Vaughn, 94, passed away on February 23, 2022 at The Pines, Kirksville, Missouri, after a lengthy battle with dementia.

Velma was born on April 5, 1927 to Marie (Talley) and William Frank (Bill) Robertson at the family home four (4) miles south of Green City, MO.

She spent her early years on the farm, attending Comstock School and forming her life long love of being outdoors.

On August 1, 1947 she married George Albert Vaughn. To this marriage three children (Stephen, Valerie, and Beverly) were born. They lived primarily in northern Missouri where George worked in school administration, retiring to the ‘farm’ shortly after the death of Beverly in 1974.

She was preceded in death by her husband George; daughter Beverly; son Stephen; parents Marie and Bill Robertson; sister Ramah Quick; son in law Peter Arambasick; and her beloved Shih Tzu Daisy Mae.

Velma is survived by her daughter Valerie (Bert) Johnson and grandson Jacob of Kirksville, MO; grandson Wesley (Sandy) Vaughn, Bend OR; and daughter in law Theresa Vaughn, Paw Paw, MI.

Velma was known for her sharp wit, cinnamon rolls, crack marksmanship and love of the outdoors. Until she became ill, she planted two gardens, mowed several acres, grew flowers and kittens. She will be sorely missed by so many, but we are confident that her absence from the body means she is present with the Lord.

Friends and Family were received Friday, February 25, 2022 at Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring with a date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Adair County Humane Society.
