 DON EVAN SHUTTY 

Don Evan Shutty, 74 years old, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Milan Health Care Center in Milan. 

Evan was born December 17, 1948, to Donald Jackson and Avis Ruth (Wattenbarger) Shutty. 

He was raised in Milan and graduated from Milan C-II in 1966. Evan attended college, at William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri and Northeast Missouri State College (Truman University), Kirksville, Missouri, and after service in the Navy completed a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona, Florida. 

Evan joined the United States Navy in 1968, with service as a Flight Engineer in Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict. Evan’s travels in the Navy took him to numerous bases stateside and he spent many years overseas in Hawaii, Philippines, and in Okinawa. He had a special love for Hawaii, he enjoyed diving and often talked of his time there. He then served as a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Non-Commissioned Officer with the 175th Military Police Battalion, Missouri National Guard and retired in 2006 with over 26 years of Active and Reserve duty. Evan was especially proud of his service in the Navy and the Missouri Army National Guard and was often spotted sporting hats that advertised the different units he had belonged to. 

Evan enjoyed hunting, reading and going to auctions. He also liked to collect coins and guns. 

Survivors include: his brother, Steve Shutty and wife Martha of Kansas City; two nieces, Carolyn Miller and husband Kyle of Kansas City, Elizabeth Shutty of Mexico City, Mexico; a nephew, Nick Shutty of Kansas City; three cousins, Dave Swiss and wife Cindy, Lyn Thomas and husband Don, and LaNell Grisoli and husband Rob. 

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Donald and Avis; and Grandparents, Frank and Adele (Jackson) Shutty and Nova J. and Fern Irene (Eubanks) Wattenbarger. 

A private burial for Evan will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. 

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan.
