 CATHERINE ANN “CATHY” ATKINS 

Catherine Ann “Cathy” Atkins, 78 years old, of Osage Beach, Missouri, formerly of Milan, Missouri passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Lake Regional Health Systems in Osage Beach. 

Cathy was born November 8, 1944, in Milan to James Paul and Rita Mae (Crookshanks) Glidewell. 

Cathy graduated from Milan C-II High School and moved to Chillicothe and was a telephone operator. 

Cathy married Gary Vobornik and they had Stephanie. Cathy started a preschool in her basement while she attended Northeast Missouri Teachers College. She then taught many grades around the Milan area. 

After Gary passed away, she met and married David Atkins in 1987; he preceded her in death in 2022. She was also preceded by: her parents; a sister, Julie Nickell; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Glidewell; and a niece, Lisa Covington. 

Survivors include: her daughter, Stephanie Schnelle and husband Scott of Gravois Mills, Missouri; a stepson, Michael Atkins and fiancé Melissa Johnson of Anderson, South Carolina; Grandchildren, Samantha Oder (Brad Ford), Alex (Ana) Oder, Miranda (Sean) Smith, Whitley (Patience) Schnelle, and Madison Atkins; Great Grandchildren, Ella and Eliza Smith, and AJ and Aurora Oder; a sister, Jennie Marks and husband Larry of Smithville, Missouri, two brothers, Oren and wife Linda Glidewell of Kirksville, and Stan Glidewell of Milan; and a special caregiver Toni Eaglen. 

Cathy enjoyed yoga and gardening. She was a singer and enjoyed performing whenever she could. She was active in church, being baptized in the Catholic Church and later the Baptist Church. 

Funeral services for Cathy were held Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Milan, Missouri with Creighton Cox and Rev. Dan Wilford officiating. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. Ruschmeier- Smith Funeral Home in Milan is handling arrangements.
