To kick off the Christmas Season, activities are being hosted on Saturday, December 5, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Milan square.
The Mayor will light the Christmas tree at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Kicking it off will be the announcement of the winners for the decorating contest. Businesses and residential houses are asked to join in decorating. If you are a 63556 zip code in the residential or business category and are located outside of city limits, please call us and let us know so we can add you to the list to be judged.
There will be prizes of $100. for first, $75. for second, and $50. for third in the business category, the residential category, and the parade judging. Businesses and residential will be judged on December 4th, 2020. This is being sponsored by the Milan Old Timers Reunion Committee.
The Hotel Stanley lobby will be decorated for Christmas. People are encouraged to come and enjoy the displays.
There will be a lighted Christmas parade at 6:00 p.m. Line up will start at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Elks Lodge area. Please call us if you have an entry so we can plan accordingly. Contact Terri Lynn Richardson at 660-265-5872 or Janet Maulsby at 660-292-0238.
Santa will arrive on the fire truck with treats for all the children.
There will be a drawing for adults. Tickets will be available at two different locations to keep the social distancing at bay. There is no fee for the tickets and only 1 ticket per person.
The Christmas treat for the children and the adult drawings are only possible through many donations of area businesses and individuals, Milan Old Timers Reunion Committee and Sullivan County Community Development. A complete listing will be listed next week.
It is recommended and highly urged that we all wear masks, maintain 6 feet or more between families or parties and stay within your family or party. We graciously have access to the entire square for these few hours so it is extremely important to maintain and enforce said recommendations.
Safety, Social Distancing and Awareness! Merry Christmas!
