MILAN, Mo. — The Milan C-2 Board of Education approved the district’s 2026- 27 budget during its regular meeting May 21. Superintendent Dr. Ashley Pauley presented expected revenues and expenditures before the board voted 6-0 to approve the budget as presented. The board also approved a bid from Weston Heating and Cooling for a new HVAC unit to heat and cool the agriculture shop, classrooms and band area. A 2025 graduate of Milan C-2 High School, Sayre is currently pursuing a degree in Agricultural Education with an emphasis in Teacher Certification at the University of Missouri– Columbia. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released their county employment and wages report. Sullivan County reported the second-highest average weekly wage among several northeast Missouri counties in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Bureau of Labor Statistics County Employment and Wages report showed Sullivan County with 2,312 covered jobs at 144 establishments in December 2025. The county’s average weekly wage was $1,039. KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — A Green Castle man remains in custody after Adair County Prosecuting Attorney David Goring filed five felony charges June 9 alleging multiple acts of domestic assault. Clark Koesy, 39, of Green Castle, is charged in Adair County Case No. 26AR-CR00431 with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, second-degree domestic assault and two counts of third-degree domestic assault. The charges stem from allegations that occurred on or about June 8 in Adair County, according to the felony complaint. Owned by Sullivan County Memorial Hospital, the pharmacy is located at 511 W. Third St. in Milan. The pharmacy opened in February 2025 and provides prescription services, pharmacist consultations and education, over-the-counter pharmacy products and a Milan Loyalty Program. Submitted by Avery Sayre Beginning May 22, 4-H Volunteer Avery Sayre and Youth Development Educator Hillary Robedeaux with the University of Missouri Extension, delivered a Farm to Table school enrichment program at Milan C-2 summer school. Over the course of five lessons, approximately 45 students in grades 4–6 participated each day, gaining a better understanding of Missouri agriculture, livestock production, food labeling, nutrition, and food safety. The lessons focused on topics including beef and pork products, Missouri commodities, understanding meat labels, and how agricultural practices influence the food consumers purchase and eat. Funding has been awarded for this year’s Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) grants. One hundred and twenty-six (126) fire departments will receive reimbursement of up to $10,000 to assist with the purchase of personal protective equipment, communications equipment and wildland/structural fire suppression equipment to help increase the fire departments capacity to suppress wildfires and structural fires safely and efficiently. The total funding awarded to Missouri fire departments through the matching funds grant program this year is $704,213.00. MILAN — Milan C-2 earned a perfect rating, while Green City R-I had one bus listed as defective during the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s 2026 annual school bus inspection program. Milan presented 12 buses for inspection, and all 12 were approved during the initial inspection. No Milan buses were listed as defective or placed out of service. Green City presented 10 buses for inspection. Nine buses, or 90 percent, were approved on initial inspection, while one bus, or 10 percent, was listed as defective.
