The Milan Wildcat varsity baseball squad traveled to Brashear to do battle with the Brashear Tigers in a non-conference encounter on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. The Wildcats watched the contest slip away early and could not recover losing 12-4.
The Wildcats struggled offensively, putting runners across home plate. Milan stranded 13 runners over 7 innings. Meanwhile, the Tigers rapped out 9 hits which included a double and 4 homers.
Brady Sayre was the Wildcat starting hurler going 2 2/3 innings, allowing 9 runs, 9 earned, on 5 hits, 7 walks, 1 home run, 1 wild pitch, 1 hit batter, striking out 1 batter using 77 pitches, 35 for strikes.
Grayson Smith was the relief pitcher, throwing 3 1/3 innings, using 62 pitches, 36 for strikes, allowing 3 runs, all earned on 4 hits, 2 walks, struck out 2 batters, gave up 3 home runs.
Milan scored, first with a tally in the top of the second. Grayson reached on an infield single, went to second on a ground out, advanced to third as Zack reached via a Tiger error. Zack stole second. Blayton Dibble loaded the baes, being hit-by-a-pitch. Kamden DeRyke reached on a fielder’s choice as Grayson was out a home plate. Jayden Sizemore was hit-by-a-pitch forcing in Zack for the score. A fly out ended the inning stranding 3 runners. Milan 1, Brashear 0.
The Wildcats only lead was short lived as Brashear answered with a 5 spot in the bottom of the inning for a 5-1 lead after 2 innings. Three walks, 2 hits, a wild pitch, stolen base and 1 Wildcat error. The big blow was a grand slam homer.
Milan fought back with 2 in the top of 3rd to cut the deficient, 5 to 3. Keaton Weter led off being hit-by-a-pitch. Deric was intentionally granted a free pass. Grayson loaded the bases with another infield hit, no outs. Two stike-outs appeared bleak for the Wildcats. However, Blayton came through with a triple, driving in Keaton and Deric. The relay throw to third cut down Grayson ending their rally.
Brashear added 4 runs in the bottom of the third to up their lead 9 to 3. Three walks, a hit batter, and two hits produced the runs.
Milan failed to score in the fourth, fifth and sixth while Brashear added 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Three solo homers off the Wildcats. Tigers 12, Milan 3 after 6 full innings.
Milan added a run in the top of the seventh, but also left the bases loaded at the end of the inning. Grayson led off with his third hit of the contest, a double to leftfield, raced to third on an infield hit from Brady. A walk to Zack loaded the sacks with no outs. Grayson crossed home on a ground out to the right side, following a strick-out. Jayden walked to fill the bases but a flyout ended the game, Brashear 12 and Milan 4.
Grayson led Milan with 3 hits, 1 double, scored 1 run.
Keaton was 2 for 3, scored 1 run plus hit-buy-a-pitch.
Blayton was 1 for 2, a triple, 2 RBIs, and was hit-by-a-pitch.
Jayden was 1 for 3, 1 RBI, walked once.
Brady was 1 for 4.
Ethan Bennett drew a walk.
Deric scored 1 run, was hit-by-a-pitch, walked once.
Zack scored 1 run, 1 walk, 1 stolen base.
Kamden DeRyke, 1 walk.
