Commissioners and Stakeholders:
In accordance with requirements of the USFWS Biological Opinion mist netting will be undertaken starting next Sunday night and proceeding through Friday. There will be a team from Olsson in the lake-bed site in five separate regions. Obviously, this work will be performed throughout the night. Residents around the lake may see late-night traffic and flashlights in the bed of the lake. The lake area has had this done once previously and discovered Indiana and Northern Long-eared bats. The upcoming work is being done to establish a baseline to determine impacts from construction of the lake. There will be another round in a few years. Please let friends and neighbors in the area know of this activity.
From Aaron Ball, Olsson:
Olsson will be conducting bat mist netting at the East Locust Creek Reservoir area Sunday, June 12th through Friday, June 17th. Bat mist netting includes setting up nets that capture bats flying through travel corridors. Bats captured will be tracked to their roosting locations. The mist netting will occur late into the evening and early morning. The bat mist netting is a required component of the USFWS consultation for the East Locust Creek Reservoir.
