The Milan Ladycats were host to the Linn County Mustangs on Tuesday, September 4, 2022, on the Ladycats’ Senior night. Milan honored the Seniors with a 4 to 1 victory. Three outstanding Seniors are: Auburn Cole, Gracie Dickson, and Hallie Weaver. These three Seniors are the catalyst of this year’s squad providing leadership by example. These student athletes have molded the young Ladycat squad. The three Seniors will be tough to replace, but their value not forgotten.
The 4 to 1 victory was a special send off for these three Seniors.
Danika Shepherd was the starting hurler going 4 innings, allowing no runs on three hits, struck out 4 batters using 55 pitches, 41 for strikes. Emerson Pauley threw the final three frames, using 52 pitches, 33 for strikes. One run was allowed 1 hit, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, and 2 Milan errors.
Milan scored 2 in the bottom of the second to break the scoreless duel. Danika reached via a Mustang error, went to third on an infield single from Auburn, both advanced on stolen bases. Both scored on a sweet single to right field by Keagan Eddy.
Linn County cut the deficit in half with 1 run in the top of the fifth. A hit plus 2 Ladycat errors did the damage. However, Milan answered with 1 run in the bottom of the inning. Three Linn County errors gave Milan 1 run. The Milan defense, plus 3 strikeouts by Emerson retired the Lady Mustangs in the final 2 innings. Milan added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Amy had a 1 out double, went to third on a passed ball. Emerson helped herself with a solid single into center scoring Amy. The final was Milan 4 and Linn County 1.
Amy was 2 for 3, scored 1, 1 rbi, 1 double, and 2 stolen bases; Emerson 2 for 3, 1 double, 1 rbi, 1 walk, and 1 stolen base; Hallie Weaver 1 for 4; Gracie 1 run scored; Danika 1 run scored, 1 walk, and 1 stolen base; Auburn 1 for 3, 1 run scored, and 1 stolen base; Keagan Eddy 1 for 3, 2 rbis, and 1 stolen base.
