Meeting Minutes Summary
The Milan C-2 School District Board of Education convened for its regular monthly meeting on January 22, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Board President Mr. David Richardson called the meeting to order, with several board members and school personnel in attendance. The meeting covered a variety of topics, including district performance reports, financial updates, policy changes, and future planning.
The board quickly moved through procedural matters, approving the agenda and minutes from the December 18, 2024, regular and executive sessions. Both motions carried unanimously.
Superintendent Dr. Ashley Pauley provided an update on the district’s Annual Performance Report (APR), highlighting improvements under the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) standards. She noted that this year’s APR rating is the district’s highest since transitioning to these standards.
Additionally, Dr. Pauley and High School Principal Mrs. Brooke Dodson discussed ongoing efforts to enhance student achievement, particularly in ACT and ASVAB testing. Following the presentation, the board approved the APR report with a 6-0-0 vote.
Dr. Pauley also presented the district’s financial report, stating that the district remains in a strong financial position. She emphasized the positive impact of recent improvements around the campus and expressed confidence in the district’s fiscal health.
Various school administrators submitted written reports and provided verbal updates on key areas:
Mrs. Mary Jo Sawyer (ELL Director) – Provided updates on PowerSchool implementation and the increasing number of English Learner (EL) students. She also discussed preparations for the upcoming ACCESS testing.
Mrs. Ashley Gardner (Special Education Services Director) – Highlighted key activities and developments within the Special Education Department.
Mrs. Ashley Hoerrmann (Elementary Principal) – Reported on enrollment numbers, past school events, and upcoming activities, including the Read-A-Thon and Leader in Me initiatives.
Mr. Ched Hurley (Athletics Director) – Shared updates on current sports seasons and club activities. Dr. Pauley also mentioned potential changes to the Milan Tournament planned for 2026.
Mrs. Brooke Dodson (High School Principal) – Reviewed high school enrollment figures and provided an overview of upcoming academic and extracurricular activities. She also outlined testing schedules and new incentive programs aimed at student performance.
Superintendent’s Report
Dr. Pauley covered several district-wide updates, including:
Board election results, noting that with two candidates running unopposed for two open seats, the district will not need an April election.
Plans for implementing a School Resource Officer (SRO) and potential next steps.
The 2025-26 academic calendar, which she plans to present in an upcoming meeting.
Results from the superintendent survey, which gathered feedback from staff.
Dr. Pauley presented the December 2024 financial statement, which the board approved unanimously.
The board reviewed updates to district policies, including: Policy 1422, Policy 4560, Policy and Regulation 6325.
A motion to adopt the revised policies and regulation was approved with a 6-0-0 vote.
Dr. Pauley informed the board that the district’s current IT service contract with QNS will expire in June 2025. After reviewing proposals, the administration recommended switching to NEMR for IT services. The board approved the transition with a 5-0-1 vote, with Mr. Gardner abstaining.
At 6:51 p.m., the board entered executive session to discuss personnel matters and contract negotiations. The session lasted until 8:40 p.m., after which the board returned to open session.
The meeting adjourned at 8:41 p.m. The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
