Route 6, Route 11 and Bridge Upgrades Proposed for 2026–2030
MILAN, Mo. — Sullivan County is the focus of several proposed transportation upgrades in the Missouri Department of Transportation’s (MoDOT) Draft 2026–2030 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which is now open for public review and comment through June 6.
The plan outlines both construction-ready and long-term scoping projects aimed at improving road conditions and ensuring safety across key routes in northern Missouri.
Among the highlighted projects is a bridge rehabilitation project that spans multiple counties, including Sullivan. The project, listed under Job No. NW0105, will address aging bridge infrastructure across Sullivan, Daviess, Grundy, Harrison, Linn, Mercer, and Putnam counties. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the total project estimated at $1.68 million, funded primarily through the National Highway Performance Program (NHPP).
In addition to bridge work, two scoping-phase pavement projects are underway in Sullivan County.
One involves Route 6, extending from 0.7 mile east of Route 65 to Route 5 near Milan. The project (Job No. NW0083) is being evaluated for future pavement improvements with anticipated costs ranging from $5 million to $10 million.
The second scoping project (Job No. NW0079) targets pavement upgrades on Business Route 5 and Route 11, also within Sullivan County. That project carries an estimated cost of $2 million to $5 million and is funded through the Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) program.
These proposed improvements reflect MoDOT’s ongoing investment in rural infrastructure and its effort to enhance the safety and durability of vital regional roadways.
