The Green Castle Lions Club is proud to honor Sandy Jackson as the 2025 Grand Marshal of the Green Castle Labor Day Celebration.
Sandy has been a beloved part of the Green Castle community for the past 15 years, though her ties to the area stretch back more than 25 years. A true servant of her community, Sandy volunteers her time helping with community dinners— whether it’s for families after funerals, the annual Christmas dinner, or other special gatherings. She also serves as a dedicated city councilwoman, has been active for years with the Green Castle Volunteer Fire Department, serves Sullivan County as a first responder, and is a proud member of the Green Castle Cemetery Board.
Sandy’s work ethic and dedication began early. After graduating from Unionville Schools in 1967, she went on to graduate from CNA school and began her career at the Unionville Hospital. She then focused her time on raising her five children as a stay-at-home mother before returning to work at Sullivan County Hospital, where she served for 11 years. Over the years, she also babysat for local families, bartended at her brother’s bar in Novinger, and in 2005, fulfilled a dream by opening her own restaurant—Sandy’s Country Cooking. After closing the restaurant in 2014, she worked at Rolling Hills until her retirement. Today, Sandy enjoys babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a role she cherishes dearly.
Family is at the center of Sandy’s life. She is the proud mother of Angel Oder of Milan, Ray Staggs of St. Joseph, Kristina Staggs of LaPlata, and Branden Lindsay of Green City. Her family has grown to include 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom bring joy to her daily life.
In her free time, Sandy loves tending to her flower beds, babysitting, helping out with community events, and spending time with her family. When asked what she loves most about Green Castle, she says it’s the way the community always pulls together to support one another in times of need—a true reflection of small-town friendliness.
Labor Day holds a special place in Sandy’s heart. She is grateful for the Green Castle Lions Club and their dedication to keeping the celebration alive each year. For her, Labor Day is also about family—her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all come together for the weekend to enjoy the festivities, especially the rodeo.
When asked how she felt after being chosen as this year’s Grand Marshal, Sandy said, “I was surprised and felt very honored. I started to cry and was told not to cry—that it was very well deserved. I was very pleased, and my family was very excited for me. Thank you all for this honor!”
Please join us in congratulating and celebrating Sandy Jackson, our 2025 Grand Marshal, for her lifelong commitment to family, community, and service.
