June School Board Meeting Minutes Summary
MILAN, Mo. (June 19, 2024) – The Milan C-2 School District Board of Education held its regular meeting on June 19, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Board President David Richardson presided, with all members in attendance. The meeting commenced promptly at 6:01 p.m.
The board approved the agenda unanimously (6-0) following a motion by Nick Gardner and a second by Samantha McCabe.
Superintendent Dr. Ashley Pauley presented the financial procedures report, which the board approved unanimously. The principals and directors reviewed the district’s culture and climate, noting strengths and weaknesses from the 2023-2024 school year. This report was also approved unanimously. Additionally, the athletic director’s report on sports and activities received unanimous approval.
Principals and directors presented their reports, including updates on English Language Learners, elementary education, activities/ athletics, special education, and high school operations. Dr. Pauley’s superintendent’s report covered a range of topics, including the new four-classroom addition, summer maintenance, federal programs allocations for the 2024-2025 school year, and curriculum goals.
The board approved the minutes from the May 15, 2024, regular and executive sessions without dissent. Financial statements for June were also approved unanimously.
The board approved a motion to amend the 2023-2024 budget, allowing the transfer of remaining funds to the capital expenses fund for projects such as new bus purchases, building renovations, and technology enhancements.
In new business, the board accepted updates to building handbooks, adopted a new military leave form, and updated Policy 5550 to align with expanded USDA discrimination protections. They discussed the Milan C-2 Curriculum Handbook, which outlines curriculum development processes and goals.
The board approved an increase in bus driver trip pay from $15 to $20 per hour for Saturday trips, adopted the Teacher Baseline Salary Grant, and added cross-country running as a fall sport. A perpetual calendar report schedule for the 2024-2025 school year was also approved.
An executive session to discuss personnel issues and property matters commenced at 7:38 p.m. and concluded at 7:58 p.m. The regular meeting adjourned at 7:59 p.m. The next board meeting is scheduled for July 17, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
