The Milan Ladycats staved off a futile, upset minded, Scotland County Lady Tigers with a score of 49-47 on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. They advanced to the Championship contest against the number one seed North Shelby Lady Raiders. Scotland County led early in the first quarter, but once the Ladycats grabbed the lead 6 to 4, they did not relinquish their advantage. The contest had its ebbs and flows., Milan saw their lead grow and claw their way to within one point 37-36 early in the fourth quarter. Free throws proved the difference, charity tosses win ballgames. Scotland was 10 of 23, while the Ladycats hit 14 of 22. A smothering defense by Milan also appeared to wear down the Lady Tigers. Scotland converted only 3 of 10 free throws in the second half.
Milan won the opening tip but Scotland scored first. On the next possession, two free throws put the Lady Tigers went up 4-0. Milan reeled off 9 straight for a 9-4 advantage. Their lead would grow to lead 15-8 after the first stanza. Marian led Milan with 8 points, 2 rebounds. Amy had 3 points, 1 rebound. Violet had a deuce, 1 rebound plus 3 assists. Emerson Pauley had one 2 pointer, 1 rebound. Mia Pauley and Jazmin grabbed 2 caroons apiece.
The second quarter had Milan take an early 19-10 lead. The Lady Tigers drew within 2 points, 19-17 with a 7-0 spurt. Milan inched ahead, 30-22 at intermission. Mia Pauley came off the pines, full of energy, scoring 7 points. Marian had 4 points and an assist. Jazman had a deuce, 3 rebounds, 1 steal. Emerson had a 2 pointer, 2 assists, 1 steal. Amy had 4 rebounds, 3 assists. Foul trouble began to creep in for both squads.
Milan built an 11 point lead only to have the Lady Tigers chip away and pull within 2 points by the quarters end, 37-35.
The Ladycats were outscored 13-7. Amy tallied 5 points, 1 rebound, 2 steals. Emerson converted 2 charity tosses. Marian had 1 rebound, 1 assist. Jazmin had 1 steal, Emerson 2 rebounds. It was a cold quarter where shots would not fall. Scotland used a tremendious amount of energy to climb back into the game.
With momentum on their side. Scotland scored first in the final 8 minutes of regulation. Making 1 of 2 free throws, Scotland trailed 37-36. Milan ripped off 8 straight to pull ahead 45-36 with 3 minutes left to play. Four buckets, 4 assists. Amy had 4 points, Marian and Violet had a deuce apiece. Marian 2 of the assists, Amy and Emerson had 1 each. With 2 minutes left, Milan led 46-37. Scotland had 1 more frantic push only to come up 2 points short. Milan put an end to the Cinderella dream of Scotland County. Very exciting contest.

Amy had double digits with 12, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 blocked shot.
Mia Pauley had 7 points, 3 rebounds.
Emerson Pauley had 6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal.
Violet had 4 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists.
Jazmin had 3 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals.

Scotland was paced by Kwyn Halin with 22 points, 7 rebounds. Lilly Frederick had 11 points, 1 rebound. Charlee Hollard had 5 points, 7 rebounds. Ailea Hayes had 5 points, 2 rebounds. Keeley Brown had 4 points, 6 rebounds. Payton Miller and Deana McKinney had 2 rebounds apiece.
