As we kick off the New Year, MU Extension and Sullivan County 4-H are setting bold goals to reach even more youth in our community. A key part of this effort is the formation of a brand-new community club, Top Hands, led by Jodi and Jordan Deterding of Milan.
Jodi and Jordan bring exceptional experience, enthusiasm, and fresh ideas to Sullivan County 4-H. Their leadership promises to inspire and engage youth across the county, and we are beyond excited to welcome both them and the Top Hands club into our 4-H family.
As former 4-H members themselves, Jodi and Jordan are no strangers to the values and opportunities that 4-H provides. Jodi was an active member of the Happy Harvesters 4-H Club in Marshall County, Kansas, where she pursued projects in dogs, horses, photography, arts and crafts, foods, reading, and cake decorating. Jordan was a member of the Rolling Meadows 4-H Club in Frontier County, Nebraska, as well as FFA. His involvement focused on livestock projects, including beef and sheep, along with photography, woodworking, and gardening.
Now, as leaders of the Top Hands club, they are eager to share their experiences and learn more about some of the amazing projects that Sullivan County 4-H has to offer. They’ve expressed particular interest in Robotics and Shooting Sports, two projects they didn’t have the chance to explore previously. With Shooting Sports being such a strong and established program here, they’re looking forward to encouraging members to get involved and make the most of this exciting opportunity.
“We are excited to have new members join and be recognizable faces to the community as 4-H representatives! We want to be active in the community and help our members gain confidence and skills like we have benefited from in our adult life that were rooted during our 4-H careers. As a young family, we want to be involved in 4-H to make sure it is a strong organization for our kids and generations to come. We still want to “Make the Best Better”!” say Jordan and Jodi.
Please join us in welcoming Jodi and Jordan Deterding and the Top Hands club to Sullivan County 4-H. We can’t wait to see the new energy and ideas they’ll bring to our program!
