City of Milan Announces Formation of Steering Committee Following Downtown Property Donation
Submitted by Crystal Bupp, City Administrator
MILAN, MO – The City of Milan is proud to announce the next step following the recent donation of a vacant lot from Verimore Bank to the City of Milan. The City will officially begin the recently donated lot redevelopment planning process by forming a Steering Committee tasked with leading and executing community engagement efforts to determine the best future use of the newly donated property.
The committee will be charged with executing a Community Engagement Process designed to gather input from residents, businesses, and local organizations. The plan will define the goal of the engagement process—what the committee seeks to learn from the community—and outline how the information collected will shape future planning and development decisions for the downtown site.
Mayor Andy Herington expressed his appreciation for Verimore Bank’s generosity and commitment to Milan’s future.
“We are deeply grateful to Verimore Bank for their investment in our community and their commitment to enhancing the lives of those who reside in our great town,” said Mayor Herington. “Their donation demonstrates the power of local partnerships and the importance of working together to make Milan a place where families, businesses, and neighbors continue to thrive.”
The Mayor also emphasized the collaborative nature of the initiative.
“This is an opportunity to bring people together around a shared vision for our downtown,” said Mayor Herington. “By forming a Steering Committee, we can thoughtfully evaluate options, engage the public, and create a plan that reflects Milan’s priorities for growth, investment, and quality of life.”
The Milan Downtown Lot Redevelopment Steering Committee will include representatives from the City Council, local businesses, the Chamber of Commerce/Main Street program, residents, and community stakeholders. Once appointed, the committee will immediately begin organizing public engagement activities to ensure those throughout the community have an opportunity to provide input in shaping the future of downtown Milan.
Additional information will be released in the coming days and weeks.
