Milan Police Department Earns Blue Shield Designation for Second Year

MILAN, Mo. — The City of Milan Police Department has received the Missouri Blue Shield designation for the second consecutive year, recognizing its continued commitment to public safety, crime reduction and community partnerships.

The designation, awarded by the Missouri Department of Public Safety, honors communities that make significant efforts to reduce crime, strengthen law enforcement collaboration and build relationships with residents. The program also emphasizes proactive policing strategies and long-term public safety planning.

Gov. Mike Kehoe said the program highlights communities that prioritize safety and create environments where families and businesses can thrive, while supporting law enforcement efforts across the state.

Milan first earned the designation in 2025 and maintained it through ongoing efforts in officer recruitment, community engagement and public safety initiatives aimed at strengthening trust between officers and residents. The recognition signals continued progress in aligning local efforts with statewide public safety goals.

Mayor Andy Herington said the recognition reflects the police department’s dedication and strong local partnerships. Police Chief Gail Hayes said the honor represents the department’s continued commitment to protecting and serving the community.

Communities receiving the designation are eligible for grant funding to support law enforcement training and equipment through the state’s fiscal year 2026 budget, along with recognition from state officials.
