In response to the healthcare shortages, particularly in rural regions, Sullivan County Memorial Hospital
has established an annual program aimed at introducing local high school students to the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available within the healthcare sector. On Friday, September 27th,
Sullivan County Memorial Hospital teamed up with Milan C-2 Schools for our annual SCMH Health
Care Career Day. One-hundred and sixty eager students showed up to dive into the world of healthcare this year!
Schools attending was Milan C-2; Green City; Newtown-Harris; North Mercer; Linn County R-1;
Princeton; Scotland County; Adair County R-1 (Novinger); Grundy R-5; Putnam County R-1 and Linn County Area Career; Tech Center.
Sixteen healthcare professionals shared valuable insights with students regarding their respective careers.
They discussed their daily activities, the educational requirements, anticipated income, and the numerous rewards associated with their professions.
In addition, nine colleges, universities, technical centers, and military institutions were present to address
inquiries and share information regarding the educational training programs in healthcare available on their respective campuses.
NEMO-AHEC also addressed the group regarding the various programs they have available to support
and educate individuals interested in healthcare careers.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the healthcare professionals and representatives of higher education who graciously dedicated their time from their demanding schedules to engage with students and share essential information.
We believe the day was exceptionally advantageous for the attending students, and our hope is to see these students return to rural areas following their healthcare training/ education.
