The Milan Wildcats captured their first victory over the Novinger Wildcats on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. If you thought the girl’s season opening was exciting, the boys had to top the evening with an overtime contest. There was no lead larger than 5 points in the first half. Milan saw their advantage grow to double digits in the third quarter 41-30, only to see Novinger battle back and finally draw even 48-48 with 2:15 left in regulation, then take their last lead 52-50. Keaton Weter tied the game at 52-52 at the end of regulation. Milan scored first in overtime and never trailed eking out a 61-57 opening victory.
Novinger won the opening tip but Milan scored first as Aziel Alacantara found Mackey Sow open on the block, and a quick turn around gave Milan a 2-0 lead. The teams battled to a 13-13 first quarter tie, Keaton had 5 points, 2 rebounds. Ethan Bennett had 4 points, 3 rebounds. Mackey and Memphis Cole had a deuce apiece.
There were 7 lead changes in the first half, the last saw Keaton score just before halftime for a 27-26 Milan advantage. Keaton continued with a hot hand dropping 9 points in the stanza adding 2 more rebounds., Ethan had 3 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist. Daniel Castellon had 2 free throws, 1 rebound. Mackey had 3 rebounds.
Milan outscored Novinger, 15-11 in the third quarter and led by 11 before Novinger stormed back cutting the deficit 42-37 at quarters end Ethan had a solid quarter with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal. Keaton, Mackey and Memphis had a deuce apiece. Memphis added 2 steals and 1 rebound, Mackey had 2 rebounds.
The Novinger squad chipped away in the final quarter tying the contest at 48 with 2:15, left in regulation, then went ahead 50-48 and 52- 50 before Keaton tied the game at 52-52 at the buzzer. Keaton had 4 points in the quarter plus 5 rebounds. Ethan, Mackey and Memphis had 2 points each
In overtime, Milan did not trail. Keaton and Mackey hit 2 points apiece, both on assists from Ethan. Milan maintained their lead for a 61-57 overtime victory and opening season “W”.
Daniel Castellon hit a crucial pair of charity tosses and 1 rebound. Keaton notched 5 points, 2 rebounds. Mackey added a deuce. Ethan had 2 splendid assists and 1 rebound.
Milan was led by Keaton Weter’s double-double 25 points, 11 rebounds. Ethan Bennett also had a double-double 18 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot. Mackey Sow 8 points, 7 rebounds. Memphis Cole, off the bench tossed in 6 points, collected 5 rebounds and had 2 steals. Daniel Castellon finished with 4 points, 5 rebounds. Aziel Alacantara had 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal. Jonathan Puerto had 1 assist.
Novinger was led by Bailyn Halley with 18 points, 4 rebounds followed by Koenn Stewart with 17 points, 5 rebounds. Cory Kennedy had 12 points, 6 rebounds. Quincy Chapman had 5 points and 10 rebounds
