RETA DIANNE SMILEY
Reta Dianne Smiley, 44, of Galt, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Reta was born August 12, 1981, in Trenton, Missouri to Jimmie Leon and Margie Dianne (Hudson) Thomas.
On April 29, 2000, she married Brian Smiley, he survives of the home.
Reta is also survived by: her mother Margie Thomas of Harris on the family farm; her children, Dustin Johnson and spouse Clinton of Chesapeake, Virginia, Colton Smiley and significant other Sheyenne Downing of Gallatin, Missouri, and Tracen Smiley and significant other Mariah Baugher of Galt; Grandchildren, Chaylynn Tucker and River Smiley; Brothers, Richard Thomas and wife Dina of Lathrop, Missouri and Jeffrey Thomas of the family farm; sister-in-law, Cristal Brown of Milan; Brother-in-law, Chris Smiley of Humphreys, Missouri; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Reta was preceded in death by: her father, Jimmie Thomas in 2002; grandparents, Frank and Dorothy Thomas and Edward and Dolores Hudson; brother-in-law, John Smiley.
Reta grew up in the Newtown/Harris area, graduating from Newtown-Harris RIII School in 2000. She was on the Galt Fire Department for the last 15 years, also assisting with the Junior Fire Department, and serving on the Galt Fair board. She was a member of the Missouri Firefighters Association and Missouri State Fair Fire Department. She was serving as President of the Judson Cemetery board currently. Reta was a Sullivan County E-911 Dispatcher for the past 5 years. She enjoyed doing crafts and alsocollecting rocks and shot glasses.
A funeral service for Reta was held Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Newtown-Harris RIII School with Pastor Denny Daum officiating, the Missouri Firefighter Funeral Team and the EMS and Dispatcher Funeral Team.
Burial followed at the Judson Cemetery.
Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan, Missouri handled arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions are suggested to the Judson Cemetery or the Galt Fire Protection District Memorial Fund
