Sayre Recognized with Golden Owl Award

Submitted by Morgan Watkins

The Golden Owl Award®, sponsored by Nationwide and FCS Financial , recognizes Missouri’s agricultural educators for their tremendous contributions to helping the next generation of agricultural leaders who will change the world. We are happy to announce that seven of these advisors have been selected as finalists, and will each win $500. One finalist will be named as the Missouri Ag Educator of the Year at the Missouri FFA Association State Convention in April and win $3,000. We are pleased to announce our Northeast District finalist, Jarred Sayre!

Jarred has received both his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Missouri, entering straight into the profession 30 years ago. After kicking off his career in Clark County, Jarred returned to his alma mater in Milan, and has taught there for the last 26 years. He has played a critical role in not just his program and school, but community, serving in various committees and organizations in Milan.

“I am grateful to have had various wins and stage appearances, but the biggest wins have happened in my classroom over the last 30 years. I can easily think about all of the freshmen who were too afraid to stand up and say the FFA creed, who are now leaders amongst our classroom and go on to lead others after their time in our program is done. I have been fortunate enough to teach students who have become doctors, lawyers, farmers, business owners, welders, and line workers at a factory. My goal has always been to help each of them become better and find a path that will make them happy, so they can do their very best. To me, nothing is more impactful than that.”

We cannot thank Jarred enough for his commitment to the success of our youth in agriculture. We are grateful for our educators, like Jarred, who believe in the future of agriculture and work diligently to shape the future of our industry. Stay tuned as we name one of these finalists as the Missouri Ag Educator of the Year during one of the General Sessions of the Missouri FFA State Convention!
