Donation Funds New Lights at Green City Softball Field

Submitted by Emma Davis, Smithfield Foods

During National Volunteer Week, Smithfield Foods presented a $8,000 donation to support new lighting at the softball field in Green City, Missouri, and volunteered time to help prepare the field for the upcoming spring season.

“By contributing to the new lighting at the Green City softball field and volunteering our time, we’re helping create more opportunities for kids, families and teams to enjoy this space long after the sun goes down,” said Katy Foster, Milan facility plant controller for Smithfield Foods. “It’s a project that will make a lasting difference for the community.”

The Green City softball field has never had permanent lighting, requiring little league and high school games to begin and end before sunset during the spring and fall seasons. Smithfield’s contribution helped fully fund the lighting project, which will allow for later games, longer practices and more flexible scheduling for youth and school athletics in the community.

Smithfield is dedicated to strengthening the educational fabric of local communities through targeted investments and partnerships. For more information, please visit smithfieldfoods. com/good-is-what-we-do.
