 DONALD GARY SCOTT 

Donald Gary Scott, 80, of Milan, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. 

Donnie was born on the farm in Sullivan County on February 25, 1944, to Hubert and Garnett (Carver) Scott. 

He attended elementary classes at the one room Prairie Dale School and later graduated from Milan C-2 High School. After graduation, Donnie attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (Now Truman State University). He then went on to join the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam Conflict and returned home a wounded veteran. 

Donnie is survived by one brother; Larry Scott of Milan, one sister; Carolyn (Duane) Schnelle of Milan, two nieces; Trudy Riedl and Heather (Brandon) Weiss, two nephews; Mike Scott and Scott (Stephanie) Schnelle, four great nieces; Andrea Sidle, Shalee Scott, Whitley (Patience) Schnelle, and Lainee Weiss, three great nephews; Dakota Scott, Tyler Deepe, and Owen Weiss. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one nephew: Case Schnelle. 

As a young boy, Donnie raised pigeons on the farm. He enjoyed playing basketball, practicing at home on the dirt court, shooting at the rim above the old garage door. Donnie loved his politics and served as the Sullivan County Treasurer and later as County Commissioner for several years. He loved to drive around the county and check on everyone’s crops, cattle and pastures. He was baptized and a member of Asbury Methodist Church in rural Sullivan County. He was also a member of American Legion post 228 in Milan. He most of all loved his farm and spending time with family. 

A funeral service for Donnie was held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Ruschmeier- Smith Funeral Home in Milan, Missouri with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. 

Burial followed at Campground Cemetery, west of Milan.
