Mildred Lorene Lucas, age 87, of Novinger, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Mildred was born on June 17, 1934, in Novinger, Missouri, to Victor and Blanche (Roberts) May.

On July 3 1954, Mildred was united in marriage to Paul Romane Lucas who survives.

She is survived by one daughter, Debra Lucas of Beloit, Wisconsin.

Mildred is also survived by a special grandson, Jack Caldwell (Brooke) of Kirksville, MO, who she and Paul raised since early childhood as one of their own.

She is survived by two brothers, Wesley May (Marilyn) of Moline, Illinois, and Luther May (Daisy) of Novinger, MO. She is survived by two sisters, Josephine Billington of Sublette, MO, and Carolyn Sue Noland (David) of Illinois, as well as one sister-in-law, Josephine Mathes of Lancaster, MO. Mildred is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and several in laws.

Mildred grew up in Novinger, MO and later moved to Durand, IL with her husband, Paul, where they lived for several years before returning to Novinger after retirement. She spent many years working as a nurse’s aide at Medina Nursing Home in Durand, IL.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking and taking care of others. However, her greatest love was her grandson, Jack.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Novinger Cemetery in Novinger, with Rev. Fred Baker officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to Novinger Cemetery. Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City handled arrangements.
