PHYLLIS HOPE EASTERDAY
Phyllis Hope Easterday (nee Montgomery), age 84 passed away on the 11th day of December 2021, in West Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born June 24, 1937, in Lawrence, Kansas to the late Russell and Ruth Montgomery. She was raised in Milan, Missouri.
Friendship in high school turned into a romance and Phyllis and Glen were married on May 27, 1956. Phyllis and Glen raised their three daughters in Cedar Rapids and were active in Noelridge Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Awana. She was involved in the Girl Scouts for many years as a troop leader and in several other roles. Phyllis retired from Rockwell Collins from a position in which she excelled. She relocated to West Des Moines and enjoyed attending Ashworth Church.
Phyllis enjoyed traveling. Family camping was a hobby of hers and she and Glen traveled to all 50 states. She loved sewing and made clothing for her children and grandchildren. Phyllis donated sewn clothing, made quilts for Quilts of Valor, and Blankets for Kids.
Phyllis and Glen spent 21 warm winters at their home in the vibrant community in Apache Junction, Arizona. Her circle of friends was incredibly special to her.
She was known for always having a smile on her face and having a contagious laugh. Her family meant everything to her, and she will be deeply missed.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Glen Easterday; children, Diane (Roger) Walter, Janet (Jeff) Lanzarotta, and Karen (Michael) Bentley; grandchildren, Matthew (Lara) Walter, Allison (Kevin) Taylor, Lindsey (Heath) Cazeau, Sarah (Andrew) Kafferlin, LeeAnn (Caleb) Rensberger, Heather (Jimmy) Beatty, and Lauren (Kaleb) Gooden; GiGi to 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way; brothers Keith (JoAnne) Montgomery and Robert (Connie) Montgomery; along with many dear extended family and friends.
A public reception was held at Ashworth Church on Thursday, December 30, 2021, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. A memorial service followed the reception and began at 1:30 PM.
