ROBERT LEWIS COUCH
Robert “Bob” Lewis Couch, 81 years old, of Green City, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Seasons Rehab and Health Care in Kansas City, Missouri.
Robert was born September 27, 1940 on a farm Southeast of Milan, near Cora, Missouri to Lawrence and Corinne (Glidewell) Couch. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Couch and a sister in infancy.
On March 15, 1959 in Green City, he married Bonita (Bennett) Couch, she survives of the home.
He is also survived by: their two sons, Marty Couch of Jacksonville, Missouri, and Ryan Couch and wife Jennifer of Kearney, Missouri; Grandchildren, Heather (Jay) Foster, Christina (Jesse) Kirkendoll, Taylor Couch, Garrett Couch, Emma Couch, and Abby Couch; Great Grandchildren, Corinne Charlotte “Charli” Kitchen, Wren Kirkendoll, Sawyer Kirkendoll, Imani Foster, Myles Foster and Isaiah Foster; an uncle, James Couch of Texas; and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Robert attended rural schools, then graduated from Milan C-2 in 1957. He was employed by International Shoe Factory in Kirksville and Borron Elevator in Winigan prior to becoming self-employed as an independent insurance agent, then ending his career at KIRX Radio in Kirksville where he retired in 2006, although he continued working part time there during retirement for several years.
Robert accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Green City. He was very active in serving the church and the community.
Robert and Bonita were caretakers for the “Welcome to Green City” flower garden. Robert enjoyed hunting, playing cards and shooting pool. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Cardinals, Royals, Chiefs, and Mizzou, and was the biggest fan of his children and grandchildren in their many activities. Robert enjoyed playing and coaching sports throughout his life, as well, playing fastpitch softball for many years and volunteering countless hours coaching youth baseball and basketball.
Robert most cherished time he spent with his family. He was a kind and selfless man, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He never met a stranger and always had a smile to share, along with a kind word or a quick-witted humorous comment. Robert was an eternal optimist, seeing the bright side in every situation and the best in everyone.
Funeral services for Robert will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City. Burial will follow at the Green City Cemetery, North of Green City. A visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the start of the service, starting at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Green City Cemetery.
