Mary Frances Smith, 94 years old, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Ivy Park Care Center in La Palma, California. 

She was born on December 27, 1928, to Myrtle May (Spencer) Lee and John W. Lee. former Sheriff and Mayor in Milan Missouri. She graduated from Milan High School in 1946 and soon after, she moved to Kansas City and worked for Unity School of Christianity. 

Mary Frances attended a dance one evening and encountered Robert Smith of Osgood, Missouri, and their courtship began. The couple got married March 30, 1947 and the following year they had their only child, Sandra Lea on February 1,1948. 

They resided in Indio and Glendale CA, to be close to the Southern Pacific Railroad, where Robert was hired as a railroad engineer. They eventually moved to Norwalk, CA until 1971, when the 605 fwy was built and bought their home. During this time she worked for Safeway Coffee plant and then attended keypunch operator school. Mary Frances became an employee of Continental Airlines. In 1971 they moved to Stanton, CA and worked closer to home at Alfred Hart Liquor Distributing Co. 

After they retired, they traveled throughout the United States. Robert passed away in 1995 and Mary continued living in their mobile home until 2022 where she moved into the Care Center. 

She was preceded in death by her two brothers Haskell Lee and Jr. Lee, two sisters Tressie Hatcher and Geraldine Weston,and her beloved grandson Robert James Spence. 

Mary Frances is survived by her daughter Sandra Spence and her husband Rick Spence, her granddaughter Erika and her significant other Vanessa and two great grandson’s Jacob and Michael and her sister Betty Jo Gramling of Galt, Missouri. 

A Celebration of Life will be held in June of 2024 and burial will follow the service at the Berry Cemetery in Osgood, Missouri.
