Withey Makes Plea Deal, Murder Charge Dropped to Manslaughter

MILAN, Mo. – Edward Withey appeared in court on July 22, 2025 and entered a plea to the Class C Felony of Involuntary Manslaughter 1st Degree, the Unclassified Felony of Armed Criminal Action, and the E Felony of Abandonment of a Corpse. The sentencing hearing for Withey is scheduled for September 3, 2025.

According to court documents, a couple of Mattie’s friends allegedly discovered the crime around 1:30 a.m. on Friday in the couple’s upstairs apartment in the 300 block of North State Street in Milan. They allegedly then called the police.
Mrs. Withey was allegedly found dead from one apparent gunshot wound. The alleged murder weapon, a .22 caliber rifle, was found at the scene.
Eli Withey was arrested just before 5 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021 at his workplace, the Smithfield Foods plant in Milan.
